Is it time for a break for a solo pampering holiday?
Is it time to escape the stress of everyday life to pamper and nurture you?
Every now and again, getting out of your routine and escaping to paradise is precisely what the doctor (or homoeopath) orders!
Yes, there are fantastic yoga and health retreats to indulge in nowadays, but sometimes you also just need some ‘me’ time all on your own. It’s important to find the time to connect with yourself, to nurture yourself, to rest, recuperate and possibly even to heal from a sad heart.
Solo travel is one of the greatest gifts I have given myself over the past 10 years. Before that, I never even considered travelling on my own! It wasn’t really an option when I was married. But after my divorce, and my 9-month travel trip to India, Bali, and Australia, I realised what a healing experience it actually was. Plus, even though you may be departing and flying solo – it’s so easy to meet people once travelling, who knows what kind of fellow yoga friends (or holiday romance) you may encounter along the way.
Here is a list of my favourite wellness destinations to pamper and nurture your soul. (In my opinion, it’s all about the vibe of a place and the energy you feel when you are there.)
I have listed 6 pamper holiday spots, the first 4 of which I have been blessed to visit. Friends have frequented the last two and swear that they are a piece of heaven, so I have included them as well. I plan on making my way through the whole list though… and so should you!
Slow – Gili Air, Lombok
Slow is one of my best zen places in the whole world! Not only is it on a tiny eco-island in the middle of a beautiful turquoise warm ocean, but these luxury villas each have their own private swimming pool and coconut garden. Staying here is pure bliss! In just a few hours after arrival via a speed boat from Bali and being transported by horse cart to your villa (because there is no motorised transport on the island), you can already feel your body unwinding, de-stressing and any anxiety melting away.
Chill at your villa, go for a massage or facial at their soul-nurturing spa, or wander down to the beach for a sunset cocktail.
Incredible Julie and her team will look after your every need – from snorkelling, diving, swimming with turtles, or if you just want to order dinner in and spend the night relaxing in your beautiful space.

Rice Joglo – Ubud, Bali
Hidden away in the rice fields of Ubud, when staying at Rice Joglo you feel like you are living the Eat, Pray, Love dream. It’s so peaceful and is a breath of fresh air after the busy main centre of Ubud… although only a short and picturesque walk away.
Enjoy a delicious breakfast of green banana pancakes and homemade marmalade by Wayan, or a traditional Balinese cooking class in their peaceful open-air kitchen overlooking their herb and vegetable garden. My favourite is the joglo-style accommodation. The attention to detail, door carvings and beautifully decorated rooms – as well as the outdoor bathtubs – certainly add to the charm. Spending time here feels like an absolute fairytale!

Salt House – Hiriketiya, Sri Lanka
“Take time away from reality and be near the soothing sounds of the ocean, let the monkeys entertain you and reconnect with nature.” This is the vibe of Salt House.
Hidden away in a quiet surfing bay of Sri Lanka, Salt House is an intimate and delightful yoga haven. Just a quick walk to the beach for an early morning surf or an afternoon slow flow yoga session at their beautiful open jungle yoga shala, will indeed reset you into complete rest, relax and restore mode.
Chrystal is a delight and always happy to help with anything you want or need. Please give her a hug from me when you visit!
